Chuggington.com Privacy Policy

Hello, parents! At chuggington.com, we are absolutely bonkers about kids and about making sure our visitors are savvy about protecting themselves wherever they go online. This is especially true because we are a site for preschoolers, who need all the protection we can give them, and we are pleased to be your partner in this endeavour.

(For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 1998, the data controller is Ludorum PLC of Building 3 Chiswick Park, 566 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 5YA, United Kingdom.)

You should know that on this site, we allow parents to sign up to access our special test environment, where they can review and comment on Virtual Chuggington, the new online game we are creating. Parents, you may elect to have your children help you test the environments.

Here's how we use personal information you provide:

Information We Collect, and How We Use It

Most areas of our site can be reviewed and accessed on an anonymous basis, without providing any personally identifiable information. We do allow parents (individuals who are 18 or older) to give us personally identifiable information about themselves in certain circumstances, such as to sign up to receive our newsletters, to send postcards to other parents, or to be on special lists to do fun things like test upcoming products.

As your children play our Virtual Chuggington game, our servers will collect relevant data necessary for gameplay, namely the aggregate time your child spends playing the game; which activities they played and how often; and how many in-game rewards he or she has earned (such as "miles" accrued and badges earned for successfully completing levels). Tools in the Parents Depot section will let you view this information so you will always know how your child is advancing with game challenges.

As part of our electronic postcard feature, we will ask for the e-mail address of the recipient, as well as the sender's first name and age. If the sender is 18 or under, they will be prohibited from using that feature. Postcards sent through this feature are delivered immediately.

All website users (parents and children) are able to send us messages on a one-time basis to request help or information, for example, about our website. These messages are sent to a password-protected computer, and are deleted once we have responded.

We also let parents e-mail information to us about how their children are enjoying chuggington.com, as long as the children cannot be identified by personally identifiable information such as last name, specific geographic location, school name, team name, and so on. We use technology and monitors to block such information before posting, but we ask our community members to do their part by not submitting it in the first place.

Passive Data Collection

In addition to information we collect as described above, namely when we specifically and actively ask for information, our website also collects some information passively from all of our visitors. If you download and play Virtual Chuggington, your computer will send us certain information about your game play, such as the features you most frequently access, how long you access them, and whether you have earned any "badges" (and if so, how many). Passive information collected on our website also includes pages viewed, session duration and country of origin. We use the information collected through passive technologies like cookies and web beacons to improve the design and content of our site and our game, to personalize your experience, and to offer products, programs, and services. We also aggregate this information to analyze site usage, as well as to offer products, programs, and services.

You may be able to refuse to accept cookies by activating the setting on your browser which will either refuse all cookies or will notify you when a website tries to use a cookie and gives you the opportunity to reject the cookie. However, if you select this setting you may be unable to access certain parts of our site. Unless you have adjusted you browser setting so that it will reject cookies, our system will issue cookies when you log onto our site.

Sharing Information

We will disclose information we maintain as required by law, for example, in response to a court order or subpoena. We also may disclose such information in response to a specific law enforcement agency's request or if we believe it is necessary to protect the safety of our users.

Changes to Our Site and This Policy

As we continue to offer our visitors and members new types of content and services, we may modify our practices. However, all information we collect will be treated in accordance to the privacy policy in effect at the time the information is collected unless you agree or are notified of our new policy.

Third Parties and Links

We may use agents or contractors on occasion to provide services to our users, such as sending prizes to contest winners. In these cases, we require the agent or contractor to keep the information confidential, to use it only for the specific services they are performing and to delete the information after fulfilling those services.

Our site may contain links to other sites, including those of broadcast partners, sponsors and advertisers, whose information practices may be different from ours. While we have strict guidelines governing our partnerships, visitors should consult the privacy notices on these third-party sites, since these sites are not covered by our privacy policy and may follow different procedures.

Security

We have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard the information we collect online. No technological measures are perfect, however. We thus encourage parents to take steps to protect their children by teaching children safe online practices, and by using safe practices themselves. To learn more about how to protect your children online, please visit connectsafely.org, an Internet safety forum founded by industry experts we have come to trust.

Access to Information

You have the right to access information held about you. Your right of access can be exercised in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998. Any access request must be in writing and may be subject to a fee of £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.
